No more work!

Well.  I'm not exactly out of the woods yet.  We are going to Gatlinburg with my parents for a week and when we get back I will only have a few weeks of work left.  I'm really excited about being and student only and not working and going to school at the same time.  I feel like I'm going to be able to do so much more.  I'll be able to do more schoolwork but I also will be getting us ready for our trip.

Usually Andy does the getting ready since he has a pretty flexible schedule but this time I have three days off before we leave.  So, I'll be cleaning the house, washing clothes and getting us packed.  Andy has agreed to clean the car (which is in much need of cleaning).

Not a lot else is going on.

New Job!

I got the job at the zoo!!! It isn't working with animals or anything like that - but it will still allow me to get some type of experience working at the zoo.  A guy at my church named Don works at the zoo currently and said you have to do the start in the mailroom type of stuff to get experience.

I just gave notice to my current boss this morning.  He seemed pretty indifferent about it.  Which, yet again, shows that he doesn't appreciate any of the stuff I do at my current job.  Oh well.  Doesn't matter now because I'm moving on. Yay for me.

AWESOME!

I have an interview at the zoo! They called at the end of last week to set it up for this Tuesday (tomorrow).  I'm really excited about it.  I have been planning a career working in a zoo for years.  A guy at my church, Don, currently works at the zoo.  He put in a good word for me.  He also told me that you have to start at the bottom and work your way up if you want to work with the animals.  Not only do they want someone with a degree (which I'm slowly but surely working on) but they also want someone with experience.  So, I'm interviewing for a job in the gift shop.  I have a lof ot experience in retail and it should be a good fit for me.  It is only for the summer, which for the zoo runs until the end of September.  Of course, this will mean lots of days with a bunch of kids on field trips, but that is alright.  If it helps me in any way to get some experience I'm all for it.  And, if I do well, I will have a better chance of working there next summer as well.

Andy has said that in the fall I could possibly not have to work and just go to school.  I haven't done that since high school! Right now I'm only taking two classes per semester because that is all I can really do with working 40hrs a week as well.  I will be the first to say that people who work full time and go to school full time are awesome.  I just know that I, personally, could not do well enough in school if I were going to school full time and working full time.  Even though I may not have to work at all I may look into getting a job 2 or 3 days a week on campus or something like that.  Or, if our financial situation will really allow it (we think it will) then I might try to do an internship at the zoo which would definitely give me more experience and focus more on the animals and the behind-the-scenes stuff.

Hour Cuts Suck

Well my job has managed to screw me over pretty bad.  To make a long story short the guy that owns the hotel I work at bought a lemon and now the business is going into the ground.  I feel like I'm on a sinking ship.

The place is falling apart, dirty and he just did an early termination of his franchise (because he couldn't pay them their fees) and owes them a bunch of money.  His liquor license he bought from the old owner is now expired and they won't issue him a new one until he pays the $4,000.00 the old owner owes them (it transferred to him since he bought it) and pays for the new license.  We have no one staying here and the frats aren't using our ballroom anymore because they can't have a cash bar.  Either that or he is charing the frats almost $500.00 less to provide their own liquor (which probably isn't the brightest idea ever).

So, since he can't afford to really pay us, for lack of revenue, he has taken on 5 shifts per week himself and cut all of the day people down by 1 day a week (because he doesn't want to work the overnight shift).

So what does all this mean for me?? It means that I get paid $176.00 less per month (after taxes)!!!!  He really doesn't understand why I might be upset about this.  So, I have to look for a new job.  I applied for 8 last week and I've interviewed for one that I won't know anything about until next week.  I'm still going to stay on here a few days a week because I generally like the job (mostly because I do virtually nothing all day and just do my homework and play online). Although I would leave for a wonderful full-time job somewhere else but I don't see that happening so..... yeah.

We can't survive on almost $200.00 less a month.  I don't know what I'm going to do if I can't find a new job soon! Although I'm not going to let it get me down because God has always taken care of us and I know He will this time too.  I just have to keep working on finding a new job and be patient and not worry.  I'm doing quite well so far.
